A search of a home in Lawrence, a half-hour outside Kalamazoo, led to the confiscation of 18 dead roosters and a motorcycle. Police were informed of possible cockfighting happening at the home and executed a search warrant on the evening of March 3. A 32-year-old man was arrested and faces charges for allegedly committing multiple felony crimes.
A man is wanted by the police after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and leading police on a high-speed chase throughout Richland Township. He faces charges for the alleged assault as well as charges for stealing a vehicle and eluding police, all of which are felony crimes. Police believe that the 28-year-old suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
A local firefighter from Rockford - an hour outside Kalamazoo - is facing allegations that he raped a woman in her Brighton Township, Pennsylvania home. The man - recognized as his city's top firefighter last year - now faces felony charges of rape, aggravated assault and several misdemeanor sexual assault charges.
A woman from Jackson was charged with embezzlement on August 31 after allegedly stealing approximately $8,000 from the Northwest Athletic Boosters. Her charge was embezzlement of under $20,000 from a charity or non-profit organization. Because embezzlement is a felony crime, the 31-year-old woman faces fines of at least $15,000 and up to 10 years behind bars.
An incident occurred recently when a van with two females arrived at a man's home in Hartford Township, west of Kalamazoo. The man claims that one of the females invited him out in the woods. When he declined, a man allegedly jumped out of the van and hit him in the head with a pipe. The suspects fled the scene after another person came out of the home.
Although no charges have been brought yet, police are investigating a 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman from Paw Paw, Michigan. According to police, they searched the couple's residence when they were not home, finding marijuana plants growing inside. It is unclear whether the police had a warrant.Among the items police claim they seized from the home were firearms, approximately two pounds of marijuana, over 100 marijuana plants, packaging items, scales to weigh the drugs, several thousand dollars in cash and two vehicles.
Earlier this week, a 24-year-old suspect was arraigned for the murder of a 59-year-old man in a Kalamazoo, Michigan, laundromat. The killing took place in 2007. The suspect has been charged with one count of felony murder. In Michigan, felony murder is defined as the causing of death of another during the commission of another felony.
