Paw Paw is a village in southwest Michigan. It has a population of approximately 3,500 and is the county seat for Van Buren County. Paw Paw is known as a charming destination for day trips, evening visits or vacations. Paw Paw is conveniently located between Kalamazoo and Lake Michigan. Interstate 94 provides easy access for residents and visitors.
The Name
Paw Paw is named for paw paw trees, which were prominent at the time of the city’s founding in the 1800s.
Paw Paw Events
Paw Paw Days, Christmas in the Village, and the Paw Paw Wine and Harvest Festival are three very special events on the annual calendar. The events attract visitors from throughout Michigan, plus northern Indiana and northern Ohio.
Paw Paw Parks, Lakes And Rivers
There are 13 parks in Paw Paw, and many can be reserved for special events. The parks include Courtyard Park, Paw Paw Early Elementary School Park, Harris/Miller Street Park, Hazen Street Park, Lake Front Park, Maple City Veteran’s Memorial Park, Maple Lake/Maple Island Park, Sunset Park and Tyler Field Park.
Beautiful Maple Lake is located within the city. Covering 172 acres, the lake gives residents and visitors an endless variety of water and nature activities. The confluence of the branches of the Paw Paw River also is located in Paw Paw.
Farmers Markets
The Paw Paw Farmers’ Market is open on Sundays during warm-weather months. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is located at the corner of Gremps Street and East Michigan Avenue.

Paw Paw features a wide variety of dining opportunities. These include Red’s Root Beer, The Garden Griddle, La Cantina, Paw Paw Brewing Company, Brewster’s, Walt and Marie’s Country Café, 120 Taphouse & Bistro, Cancun Mexican Restaurant, The Sugar Bear and Lucky Girl Brewing Company.
